Cookie Policy

Short version

marlbridge.com is a static site. We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors use the site, with Google's consent mode. Google's analytics script loads on every page. In the UK and Europe before you choose on the cookie banner, and anywhere if you click Reject, Google Analytics sets no cookies, but the site still sends Google some measurements without cookies: clicks on the WhatsApp button, sent enquiry and correction forms, free-trial button clicks and trial-form starts, and activity on practice pages, including whether you marked each question correct and your score on a completed diagnostic. Page views are recorded, and Google Analytics sets its cookies, after you click Accept, or outside the UK and Europe unless you click Reject. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, also measures page speed and page views without cookies (Cloudflare Web Analytics, below). We do not run advertising trackers, and we do not set any cookie of our own outside of that one analytics choice.

Where you are visiting from matters. The cookie banner is shown only to visitors in the United Kingdom, the European Economic Area and Switzerland. Everywhere else, including Pakistan and the Gulf, there is no banner: Google Analytics runs as if you had clicked Accept, and you can switch it off at any time with "Cookie Settings" in the footer. We work out which rule applies from the country our hosting provider, Cloudflare, associates with your connection for that page request. We don't store that country, and if it can't be determined we show the banner.

Google Analytics (GA4)

In the UK and Europe before you choose, or anywhere after you click Reject. Google's analytics script (gtag.js, loaded from googletagmanager.com) runs on every page with analytics and advertising storage set to "denied". In that state, as Google's consent mode documentation describes, Google's tags send measurements without cookies, and Google Analytics sets no cookies. No page view is recorded. These events from the site are sent:

  • a click on a WhatsApp button, with where the button was and the topic of the page;
  • an enquiry form sent successfully, with the kind of enquiry, and a correction report sent successfully;
  • a click on a free-trial button, with which button, and starting to fill in the trial form;
  • on practice pages: opening the practice session; each question you mark, with the question, its topic and marks, the practice mode, whether the timer was on and whether you marked it correct; a separate right-or-wrong event with the topic; additions to your error notebook; retries and weak-topic clicks; the tier you choose for a diagnostic; starting a 10-minute diagnostic, with the specification code, the set and the number of questions; a completed diagnostic, with the number of questions, the number correct and wrong, the score percent, a time band and the tier; and a click on the teacher-support link, with your last diagnostic score. Practice events also carry the specification code, board, qualification and subject.

Google Analytics may also record interactions it measures automatically for this site, such as starting to fill in a form. Like any request to Google, each measurement also carries basic technical details such as the page address and your browser. None of the events above includes your name, email address, phone number or anything you type into a form or answer.

After you click Accept, or outside the UK and Europe unless you click Reject. Google Analytics sets cookies to distinguish visitors and measure page views, referral sources and general usage patterns, records a page view on each page you visit, and sends the events above with those cookies. Advertising storage and ad personalisation stay switched off. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. This data is processed by Google under its own privacy policy.

Cloudflare Turnstile

The enquiry forms on this site (on the contact, free trial, tutoring and schools pages) and the Report a correction form use Cloudflare Turnstile, a privacy-preserving alternative to CAPTCHA, to reduce automated spam. Turnstile's script is loaded from challenges.cloudflare.com on those pages, and it may set a short-lived cookie or use similar technology while you are completing the form, under Cloudflare's own privacy policy. When you submit, our server sends the Turnstile result and your IP address to Cloudflare to confirm the check. This runs regardless of your analytics choice, because it is necessary for the forms to function safely.

Cloudflare Web Analytics

Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, adds a small script (beacon.min.js, loaded from static.cloudflareinsights.com) to every page. It measures how quickly each page loads and which pages are viewed, and Cloudflare reports these to us as aggregated statistics. Cloudflare states that Web Analytics does not use cookies or local storage. It runs regardless of your analytics choice, including after you click Reject, because it does not identify you or store anything on your device. We use it only to see how fast the site is for real visitors.

Storage in your browser

A few features keep small amounts of information in your browser's local storage. Local storage is not a cookie: it stays in this browser on this device and is not sent to our server with each page request.

  • mb_consent – your answer on the cookie banner ("granted" or "denied"), so the banner is not shown again on every page. "Cookie Settings" in the footer removes it and shows the banner again.
  • mb-practice- followed by a syllabus code (for example mb-practice-0620) – your progress on that practice page: for each question you mark, whether you marked it correct, when, and whether the timer was on. "Reset my progress" on the practice page clears the saved answers. The 10-minute diagnostics add their questions to the same record.
  • mb-diagnostic- followed by a syllabus code – the marks you gave yourself per topic in that syllabus's 10-minute diagnostic, so the revision planner can use them if you ask it to. Your typed answers are never saved.
  • mb-revision-planner-v1 – the subjects, exam dates, topic ratings, study times and plan you made in the revision planner. "Delete saved plan" on the planner removes it.

None of this is sent to Marlbridge or put in a link. Clearing this site's data in your browser settings removes all of it.

Teaching videos

Where a page has a teaching video, nothing is loaded from YouTube until you press Play. Pressing Play loads the video from youtube-nocookie.com (YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode), under Google's own privacy policy; YouTube may then store information in your browser while the video plays.

Fonts

Our typefaces are self-hosted on marlbridge.com rather than loaded from Google Fonts or any other third-party font service, so loading a page's fonts doesn't cause a separate request to anyone else's servers.

If that changes

If we later add a chat widget or a marketing tool that sets additional cookies, we'll update this page to describe what's used and how to opt out, and update the date above.

Controlling cookies

Use "Cookie Settings" in the footer of this page to change your analytics choice at any time – it reopens the accept/reject banner so you can change your mind. Most browsers also let you block or clear cookies and site data in their privacy settings generally – the site will still work, though analytics and Turnstile features may not function.
