How to approach it
For 5.1, practise structuring an answer around the specific named dimension a question asks about (lifestyle, leisure time, physical fitness, data security, or social interaction for the home; data security, autonomous vehicles, or transport safety for transport) rather than giving a general, undirected opinion about smart technology – Cambridge’s mark schemes reward answers that engage with the named factor directly. For 5.2, learn the four health issues together with their specific cause and prevention pairing (as in the table above) rather than a single blended list of “IT health tips”, since exam questions frequently ask about one named issue at a time and expect an answer specific to that issue’s actual physical cause. When discussing advantages and disadvantages in either subtopic, aim to state both sides explicitly and reach a brief, reasoned judgement where the question asks for one, since Cambridge’s “discuss” and “evaluate” command words in this topic specifically look for balanced consideration rather than a one-sided answer.
Why this topic sits where it does
Topic 5 acts as a bridge between the technical topics before it (Topics 1-4, covering hardware, devices, storage and networks) and the applied real-world systems that follow in Topic 6, ICT applications.
