IB tuition in Singapore: how online Diploma and MYP classes work
For families at IB schools in Singapore: which IB Diploma and MYP subjects are taught one-to-one online, how classes fit around the school week in Singapore time, what tuition can and cannot help with, and the free trial.
Many international schools in Singapore teach the International Baccalaureate: the Middle Years Programme (MYP) in the early secondary years and the Diploma Programme (DP) in the last two. Students usually look for help in one or two subjects, most often Mathematics, a science or Economics, and the right tutor is one who teaches from the IB’s own subject guide and assessment criteria.
Which IB subjects are taught
All IB tuition at Marlbridge is one-to-one, in 1-hour classes, live online.
IB Diploma Programme: Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches, Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, Economics, Business, World History, Language A: Language and Literature, Language A: Literature and Language B.
IB Middle Years Programme: Mathematics, Sciences and Language Acquisition.
Each subject page sets out the course structure and how it is assessed, with free study material.
What one-to-one IB tuition is good for
- Higher Level content. HL topics, such as calculus in Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches HL, often need more time than the school timetable gives them.
- Paper technique. IB markschemes reward method and clear reasoning. Working through past questions with a teacher shows where marks are lost.
- Understanding the criteria. For internal assessments and MYP tasks, a teacher can explain what each assessment criterion asks for and how a piece of work is judged.
What tuition cannot do: internal assessments, the Extended Essay and MYP projects must be the student’s own work, under the IB’s academic integrity rules. A tutor can explain the criteria and teach the subject; the writing has to be the student’s, and the school’s supervisor stays responsible for guidance on the piece itself.
Class times in Singapore time
Singapore is three hours ahead of Lahore all year, so a 5:00 pm class in Singapore is 2:00 pm in Lahore. Because IB classes are one-to-one, the time is arranged around your child’s week: after school, in the evening or at the weekend.
Every class is taught live online by a named subject teacher from our academy in Lahore. Marlbridge has no office, branch or teacher in Singapore.
Fees
IB classes are charged per 1-hour class. The Singapore page shows the fee in Singapore dollars; it is an indicative conversion of the Pakistan fee, and the exact fee is confirmed in writing before any payment.
Not taught: the Singapore national curriculum and its examinations, including the PSLE and the Singapore-Cambridge GCE and SEC examinations. Families at schools teaching Cambridge IGCSE or A Level can see those courses on the Singapore page too.
Before the trial class
- Tell us the programme (DP or MYP), the subject and, for the Diploma, whether it is Higher or Standard Level.
- Bring a recent test or a marked piece of work, so the teacher can see where marks are being lost.
- Book the free trial class. Our guide to group classes or one-to-one tuition explains how one-to-one classes work.
