The qualification
OxfordAQA International AS and A-level Business (9625 / 9725)
OxfordAQA International AS and A-level Business is a relevant and engaging specification that supports progression to further education and employment. — OxfordAQA, official syllabus page
OxfordAQA is running two specifications side by side during a transition: the legacy 9625 (first teaching September 2018) is open to its final AS exams in May/June 2026 and final A-level exams in May/June 2027, while the revised 9725 takes over for new starts from September 2026, with first AS exams May/June 2027 and first A-level exams May/June 2028. Both cover what is business, marketing, operations, human resources and finance at AS, with strategy, analysis and decision-making content added at A2; the revised specification restructures A2 assessment around case-study questions. Students beginning the course from September 2026 follow 9725; those already partway through follow 9625 to completion.
Specifications change between examination series. Always confirm the current syllabus and assessment structure on the OxfordAQA syllabus page for your examination year.

Modular qualification
| Component | Duration | Marks | Weighting | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AS Paper 1: AS Paper 1 -- Business and Markets (final May/June exam opportunity 2026; re-sit January 2027) | 1h 30m | 80 | 20% | Written exam |
| AS Paper 2: AS Paper 2 -- Managing Operations, Human Resources and Finance (final May/June exam opportunity 2026; re-sit January 2027) | 1h 30m | 80 | 20% | Written exam |
| A-level Paper 1: A-level Paper 1 -- Business Strategy (final exam opportunity 2027; re-sit January 2028) | 1h 45m | 80 | 30% | Written exam |
| A-level Paper 2: A-level Paper 2 -- Business Decision Making (final exam opportunity 2027; re-sit January 2028) | 1h 45m | 80 | 30% | Written exam |
Source: official OxfordAQA specification, verified 2026-08-28. Directly confirmed against the official live "Assessment" section of the retained legacy qualification page, which now states only the wind-down window rather than the original first-assessment date: "the final May/June exams for AS will be in 2026, and for A2 in 2027. Re-sits will be available for AS in January 2027, and for A2 in January 2028. There will be no exams for this specification (9625) after January 2028." firstAssessment here (2020) is inferred from this specification's first-teaching date (September 2018) plus the standard two-year AS/A2 cycle observed consistently across every other OxfordAQA modular A-level in this dataset, since the source page itself no longer restates the original first-exam year. This remains the operative ('current') specification as of this record's verification date (2026-08-28) because its intended replacement, 9725, has not yet reached its own first-teaching date (September 2026) -- see that record's own notes. AS teaching under 9625 has already effectively concluded (its final May/June AS exam series was 2026, already past), leaving only A2 teaching/assessment and resits live; once 9725's September 2026 first teaching begins this record should be re-classified 'legacy-teach-out'. Four papers: two AS papers at 20% of A-level each, two A2 papers at 30% each.
9725 (upcoming — not yet current)
9725 is an upcoming specification, replacing 9625 , for first teaching from 2026. First assessment: 2028. It is not yet the specification current students should follow — that remains 9625 until this one begins.
Modular qualification
| Component | Duration | Marks | Weighting | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AS Unit 1: AS Unit 1 -- Business and Markets (first exam opportunity May/June 2027) | 1h 15m | 60 | 20% | Written exam |
| AS Unit 2: AS Unit 2 -- Managing Operations, Human Resources and Finance (first exam opportunity May/June 2027) | 1h 15m | 60 | 20% | Written exam |
| A-level Unit 3: A-level Unit 3 -- Business Analysis (first exam opportunity May/June 2028) | 1h 45m | 80 | 30% | Written exam |
| A-level Unit 4: A-level Unit 4 -- Strategy (first exam opportunity May/June 2028) | 1h 45m | 80 | 30% | Written exam |
Source: official OxfordAQA specification, verified 2026-08-28. Directly confirmed against the official live "Assessment" section of the revised specification page: "available for first teaching from September 2026, with first AS exams in May/June 2027 and first A2 exams in May/June 2028." Four units: two AS units at 20% of A-level each, two A-level units at 30% each. specStatus is 'future' (not 'current') because, as of this record's verification date (2026-08-28), first teaching has not yet begun -- the legacy 9625 specification (see its own record, relatedCode 9725) remains the one existing cohorts are completing. Following teacher feedback, each A2 paper has separate topics and a simplified, fully case-study-based structure compared with the legacy specification.
