Cambridge International AS & A Level English Language (9093)

Cambridge International AS and A Level English Language develops learners’ skills in analysing and producing a wide range of spoken and written texts, and their understanding of how English is used in different contexts and for different purposes. — Cambridge, official syllabus page

Cambridge has since published a newer syllabus: Version 1, published September 2024, for exams in 2027 and 2028 (confirmed directly from the official syllabus PDF), with no significant content changes from the prior 2024-2026 version -- textbooks endorsed for examination from 2021 remain suitable. AS Level: Paper 1 Reading (50% of AS / 25% of A Level), Paper 2 Writing (50% of AS / 25% of A Level). A Level adds Paper 3 Language Analysis and Paper 4 Language Topics (each 25% of A Level), covering language change, child language acquisition, English in the world, and language and the self.

Directly confirmed against the official PDF's "Assessment overview" (Syllabus overview): Paper 1 Reading (2h15/50 marks, 50% of AS / 25% of A Level) and Paper 2 Writing (2h/50 marks, 50% of AS / 25% of A Level) form the AS Level; Paper 3 Language Analysis (2h15/50 marks, 25% of A Level only) and Paper 4 Language Topics (2h15/50 marks, 25% of A Level only) complete the full A Level. Weighting figures recorded here are the "% of A Level" figures (25+25+25+25=100); the AS-only route uses the separate 50%/50% figures instead, not modeled as a distinct record. All four papers externally assessed. This is the 2024-2026 syllabus edition (June/November series, also March in India); finalAssessment is set to 2026 and this record should be re-checked for a successor edition when next touched, since 2026 is its last examination year.
