AQA A-level English Language introduces students to the concepts and methods of language analysis appropriate to the description and interpretation of texts and transcripts of spoken language.

The board's own description is on the official AQA syllabus page.

For first teaching 2015, linear qualification. Paper 1 ‘Language, the Individual and Society’ and Paper 2 ‘Language Diversity and Change’, plus a non-exam-assessed ‘Language in Action’ component (investigation and original writing, 20% weighting).

Non-exam assessment 'Language in Action' (a 2,000-word language investigation plus a 1,500-word original writing piece with commentary, word count 3,500 total): 100 marks/20% of A-level, teacher-assessed and AQA-moderated. Total 300 marks. First teaching September 2015, first A-level assessment June 2017.
