The qualification
Cambridge IGCSE Physics (0625)
Cambridge IGCSE Physics helps learners understand the technological world in which they live, and take an informed interest in science and scientific developments through Core and Extended tiers of study. — Cambridge, official syllabus page
Current syllabus confirmed directly from the official PDF as valid for the 2026, 2027 and 2028 series. Tiered (Core/Extended) via choice of Paper 1/3 (Core) or Paper 2/4 (Extended), plus a practical component via Paper 5 Practical Test or Paper 6 Alternative to Practical.
Specifications change between examination series. Always confirm the current syllabus and assessment structure on the Cambridge syllabus page for your examination year.
Assessment structure

| Paper 2: Multiple Choice (Extended) (Extended) | 0h 45m | 40 | 30% | Multiple choice |
| Paper 4: Theory (Extended) (Extended) | 1h 15m | 80 | 50% | Written exam |
| Paper 5: Practical Test | 1h 15m | 40 | 20% * | Practical |
| Paper 6: Alternative to Practical | 1h | 40 | 20% * | Alternative to practical |
* Candidates sit one of the components marked with an asterisk, not all of them.
Source: official Cambridge specification, verified 2026-08-27. Same structural pattern as O Level/IGCSE Chemistry (independently re-confirmed from Physics' own source PDF, not copied): Paper 1/3 Core (45min MCQ 30% + 1h15 Theory 50%) and Paper 2/4 Extended (identical durations/marks/weightings, different tier), plus a practical component via Paper 5 Practical Test (1h15/40 marks/20%) OR Paper 6 Alternative to Practical (1h/40 marks/20%), both externally assessed -- a candidate sits ONE of Paper 5/6, hence alternativeGroup. Core candidates eligible for grades C-G; Extended for A*-G. Directly confirmed against the official PDF (Assessment overview, p.9-10). Examination-series window 2026-2028 (June and November series); no separate first-teaching date published by Cambridge.
